Do you want pets?/ペットをお求めの際は...

If you want to live with a dog or cat, how about checking the following places before you go to pet shops or have contacts with breeders?

1) New owner network run by Hokkaido prefectural government

2) New owner network run by Hakodate city

3) New owner network run by Hokuto city

4) Dogs and cats rescue volunteer group in Hakodate

Recently, more and more people live with their pets, but behind this pet boom, there are many pitiful things. An article from Minamikaze, local news paper's district edition tells about the situation in Hakodate.

Pet owner who can't live with their pets any more because of leaving the city or being too old take their pets to the municipal health center. Last year, 82 dogs and 820 cats were taken to the center by their owners and 155 stray dogs were taken by the authority and local people. Among them, only 26 dogs and 27 cats were rescued by new owners or volunteers. The rest were killed. I feel really sorry for the fact.

How to donate money for the affected people and area.

Today's Hokkaido Shinbun news paper shows the name lists of the people who donated money for the recent earthquake and tsunami through Hokuyo and Hokkaido banks. All want to do something and it's really touching. It shows the amount and names in katakana. All donates from thousands to hundreds thousand, all are goodwill donations. I made up my mind to donate like the people on the list. If you have your accounts of Hokuyo or Hokkaido banks, transfer fee will not be charged. If you want to donate anonymously, I think you need to go to bank counters.

Here below are the accounts of the banks.
Donation is accepted until 31 March, 2011
口座名(Account name): 東日本大震災義援金(ひがしにっぽん・だいしんさい・ぎえんきん)

北洋銀行 本店営業部 普通口座 6428409
Hokuyo bank, Honten eigyo-bu

北海道銀行 本店営業部 普通口座 1752001
Hokkaido bank, Honten eigyo-bu

If you have either account, no transfer fee is charged as long as you have an account.

FM Iruka helped me a lot./FMいるかに助けられ

Are you and your friends ok? I feel really sorry for the victims of the terrible earthquake and hope some help will reach to the afflicted people as soon as possible.

It was only five days ago that happened the earthquake. O-tsunami, or big tsunami warnings were issued for the coastline of Hakodate and Hokuto. I heard some warnings from the street, but it only said, "Evacuate your homes immediately and go to the higher area and never get close to the coast or river." My house is located about 500 meters from the shore. So I decided to go to Kikyo area, which is about three kilometers far from the coast. While I was driving, FM Iruka taught me exactly what I wanted to know.

FM Iruka("iruka" means dolphin) is a local FM radio broadcasting station and you can listen to its programs on 80.7MHz. It taught me when the first tsunami would arrive at Hakodate, the time of high tide, which roads were closed by flooding, etc. If you speak Japanese, FM iruka will help you in emergency. I often listen to their programs and it sometimes delivers disaster prevention note in English. If you live in Hakodate or Hokuto, how about tuning 80.7? I really appreciate FM Iruka.

On 11th, my husband and I returned home around half past nine and found our neighbors without damage. But we prepared for possible emergency and went to bed. My parents' house was flooded with water, but fortunately, water didn't reach tatami mats. Two days later, I dropped by theirs and found that the house across the street was flooded and a sofa, comics & magazines and many garbage bags were placed outside.

Now, every time I turn on TV, I'm terrified of the nuclear power plants news. I dreadfully wish various matters would settle as soon as possible.
