Annual Festival of Hakodate Hachimangu Shinto Shrine/函館八幡宮例大祭
Annual Festival of Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine is held on 14 and 15 of August this year. Because of the this festival, Bon Festival of Hakodate is held in July while most of other regions in Japan hold Bon Festival from 13 to 15 of August.
Date: August 14, 2007(Festival Eve) and 15 Place : Hakodate Hachimangu Shrine in Yachigashira town. (Nearest tram stop is "Yachigashira", the last stop. After getting of the tram, walk toward Mt. Hakodate, and you'll find Torii Gate easily. About 5 minutes walk from the tram stop.)
Contents of Festival Eve 13:00~ Sumo Competition of kids from Yachigashira nursery school. 16:00~ Treasure Hunt at the Shrine precincts ＊Participants should be kids under 12. Prize trading starts at 17:00 18:30~ Yosakoi Dance Performance
Contents of the Festival 10:30-16:00 Tea Service 13:00~ Competition of Boy's Kendo, or Japanese fencing, dedicate to the Shrine 16:00~ Reception of Lottery tickets(You may buy some tickets at the reception.) 17:30~ Draw at the temporary stage The grand prize is an overnight trip to the Tokyo Disney Land for a couple. There are other 800 prizes. Everyone gets a prize as long as having a ticket.
Festival Market on both days 12:00~ A flower shop, an accessary shop, a toy shop that sells traditional Japnese handmade toys, and Takoyaki(octopus ball) shop are set up. A goldfish scooping stall is also set up.
