At the end of March, my husband and I drove to west of Hokkaido visiting Kushiro and Akan. Between Kushiro and Akan, there is a small village called Tsurui, which is famous for Japanese Crane Sanctuary. The first night we stayed in Kushiro and the following day, in Akan. The following pictures were taken at Akan Hot Spring resort.
The first two pictures have flowers of Suzuran, Lilies of the Valley. Suzuran is a representative flower in Hokkaido.
Next three pictures have a similar layout. A pleasure boat floating on Lake Akan with Mt. Oakan on its back. Mt. Oakan is an active volcano and Lake Akan has heated shore called Bokke. The photo below is a photo from the Bokke trailing park.
Lake Akan is famous for its spherical green algae called Marimo. It is a special natural monument and to see Marimo, you need to use the cruise boat to an islet which has a small museum, maybe. Sorry, I've not been there and am not sure about it. In late March, the lake was frozen up and the tour boat was not running.
The last picture is out of focus though the design is good. It has a landing-on crane and marimoes.
Akiko lives in a city next to Hakodate and loves to drive around Hakodate and surrounding area. I hope people who visit or live in the Southwest area of Hokkaido come to love the area, too. 函館の隣町在住で道南エリアのドライブ大好きAkikoです。道南を訪れたり、住んでいる人が土地を好きになってくれたらなぁ、と思います。
