I went to Onuma on the first day of its annual winter festival. There are several snow and ice statues. Most snow statues are built by students or local people while ice carvings are carved by professional chefs working at nearby hotels.
Now lake Onuma is frozen totally and on the surface of it, some amuzements are ready for visitors. I took a ride on a snowmobile. The photo below was taken while I was on a course. For one ride for two people, it costs 1,500yen.
After leaving the venue of the festival, I dropped by an open-air cafe which is placed temporarily on the frozen lake. It is open until Feburuary 17, 2008 near Cafe Restaurant Rivage. The photo below is a set menu I ate at the outdoor cafe.
Akiko lives in a city next to Hakodate and loves to drive around Hakodate and surrounding area. I hope people who visit or live in the Southwest area of Hokkaido come to love the area, too. 函館の隣町在住で道南エリアのドライブ大好きAkikoです。道南を訪れたり、住んでいる人が土地を好きになってくれたらなぁ、と思います。
