Can you see how tall the cherry is? My husband standing by the tree is about 1.8m./大きさわかります？桜の下に立っている夫は１．８メートルほどです。
Houkiji(Sorry, I'm not sure if the name is correct.) Temple and drooping branches/法亀寺（読み方あってるのかしら？）としだれている枝。
To get to the site of Hekiriji garrison of Matsumae clan, take national route 228 to the Hokuto City from Hakodate. The route runs along the Hakodate port. When you find the City Hall of Hokuto city, turn right and take the prefectural route 96. After pasing through the Kamiiso Dam, you will find the sign board of Hekiriji garrison on your left. The route 96 has cherry trees both side, so it is also recommendable to drive through when they are in bloom.
Matsumae bustles with people that visit the town to see its 10,000 cherry trees from late April through May. It takes about two hours by car from Hakodate, but it's worth visiting especially when their cherry blossoms in bloom.
Blue flowers are Ezo-engosaku and yellows are Kibanano-amana. Both are edible. I don't know the name of White flowers.

It was my second visit to this museum. For the rest of my family, it was the first time and on entering the exhibition room, six-storied building high human shaped huge floats rose before us and I heard my family let out exclamations behind me.
Poweful images play leading role in the summer festival held from 4th through 8th in August. I've never been to the festival, but a friend of mine who went to the festival told me that she had an impression that Godzilla was walking in the town.
I strongly recomment to visit this museum. On the six floor, there is a restaurant with a fine view of the town and on the third floor, there is a studio and you can see how Neputa float is made. If you are interested in this museum, please check its web site.
At the beginning of April, I went to Aomori prefecture by newly debuted high-speed ferry, nicknamed Nacchan Rera. A special discount ticket called "Kurumawari" which was offered until the end of March first, but extended until the end of May later. You can't use the discount ticket during Golden Week(Apr.26-May.6), but it costs 20,000yen(about US$200) for a car and five passengers. If your car's capacity is eight, the company offeres the same price. Don't you think it's great price?
The high-speed ferry takes you to Aomori from Hakodate crossing the Tsugaru Straits in two hours. How about going to Aomoiri by your own car?
I'll write about tourist attractions in Aomori in later posts.
Following is the web site about the discount ticket of Nacchan Rera.
About one hour drive from center of Hakodate. Take Route 278 toward Toi-town and turn left after passing through two tunnels.

You can enjoy Japanese garden while taking a bath. There is no outdoor bath, but there are a jucuzzi, a low temperature bathtub, a 39 degrees bathtub, and sauna room and cold water bathtub. (This information is about women's bathroom.)
This public hot-spring bath house is located by Haraki River and I could find many fish in it. Next to the bathhouse, there is a paid camping area.
In front of the bathhouse building, there is a wooden boat which was used to reenact how people of Jomon period(from about B.C. 30,000 to 300 A.D. in general) crossed the Tsugaru Straits.
